Miguel Pastenes
wins the
2006 Texas
Tree Climbing
Championship...
Waco, Texas on May 19 & 20, 2006.
Miguel Pastenes of Arborilogical Services,
Inc. won the 2006 Texas Tree Climbing Championship held May 19th
and 20th at the Texas Ranger Museum grounds in Waco. His
domination of the competition, which included professional tree
climbers from all over the state, was clear to the hundreds of
spectators throughout the event. Waco media from both newspaper
and television were on hand to share the unique talents on
display. Miguel won four of the five preliminary events
including Footlock, Throwline, Work Climb, and Belayed Speed
Climb. The fifth preliminary event was Aerial Rescue, and he
finished a close second to Guy LeBlanc of Austin former Champion
(1999). Miguel finished first overall in the preliminary events,
and went on to win the title in the finals (Masters Challenge).
The Champion each year earns the right to compete in the
International Tree Climbing Championship and places his name on
the Steve Houser Award of Excellence (known as the Houser Cup),
a trophy named in 2003 after years of support from the owner and
founder of Arborilogical Services, Inc. Mr. Steve Houser.
Miguel's victory (his second state title)
continues an amazing streak of dominance in this event by
marking the 7th straight title won by an Arborilogical Services
employee and 13 of the last 14!
In August of 2006, Miguel went to Minneapolis,
MN to compete in the world event. He won the Belayed Speed
Climb. His victory in one of the preliminary events is the first
of any Texas competitor in the history of the competition since
it began in 1983.
