October 2001
Steve
Houser, owner of
Arborilogical Services, Inc. received two prestigious awards in a presentation
made during the 2001 Texas Community Forestry Awards Banquet in the Waco
Convention Center.
The banquet, sponsored by the Texas Forest Service, the Texas
Urban Forestry Council, and the Texas Chapter of the International Society of
Arboriculture was attended by over 320 people from around the state honoring the
leaders in the field of Arboriculture as well as others recognized for their
efforts in the field of Urban Forestry.
Mr. James B. Hull, Director
of Texas Forest Service presented Mr. Houser with the "2001 Outstanding
Professional" award. He received a numbered, remarked and framed, limited
edition of a painting specially commissioned for the program.
Past President of the Texas
Chapter of the International Society of Arboriculture Pat Wentworth then
presented Mr. Houser with a perpetual symbol of excellence in the form of a
trophy cup named in his honor, the "Steve Houser
Award of Excellence." The beautiful cup lists all the previous
winners of the state competition. This award marks the first of its kind within
the International Society of Arboriculture organization worldwide. It honors Steve's lifelong support and
commitment to the Texas Tree Climbing Championship. Mr. Wentworth went on to
announce that beginning in 2002, the State Champion will be presented a smaller
replica of the cup (what will now be referred to as the "Houser Cup").
Mr. Wentworth closed the presentation reading the plaque. "In
appreciation for his continuing commitment and inestimable contribution to the
International Society of Arboriculture Texas Chapter Tree Climbing
Championship."
