Plano’s Bob Woodruff Park Site for 2007 Texas Tree Climbing Event

The 2007 Texas Tree Climbing Championship (TTCC) is set for April 20th and 21st in the southern section of Bob Woodruff Park in Plano. This annual event is free to the public, and is held to establish the best overall Tree Climber in Texas. The competition tests each competitor in five key disciplines of their trade, Throwline, Belayed Speed Climb, Footlock, Aerial Rescue, and the Work Climb. The TTCC is held over two days, and culminates with the Master’s Challenge at the end of day two where a winner is determined. Each year the field competes to earn the right to add their name to the perpetual trophy, the “Houser Cup” aptly named after our company President and co-founder Steve Houser. In 2001, the Texas Forest Service and the International Society of Arboriculture, Texas Chapter honored Steve’s years of dedication and support for the competition by naming the TTCC trophy in his honor.

When asked about this year’s event, Mr. Houser stated, “It will be a distinguished honor and a privilege to be awarded the cup under such a historic tree that is now known to be over 500 years old! We were able to age the Quin-Centennial Bur Oak tree this past year when a limb fell in a storm. Many believe it could be the oldest living organism in our area. The “ancient one” is magnificent. This year’s site for the event is just beautiful. I am really looking forward to it.” Bob Woodruff Park is the site of the oldest tree in Plano, and many believe it may the oldest in our area.
